our story
Rooted in Purpose, Growing with Passion
SeedStar Specialty Coffee is a Ugandan-owned coffee company located in the lush highlands of Mbale, along the slopes of Mount Elgon. Inspired by the story of Mzee Kayanja and driven by the passion of founder Emmanuel Tushabe, SeedStar exists to empower smallholder farmers, improve livelihoods, and bring world-class specialty coffee to market.

Our journey began with a vision to transform Uganda's coffee sector through training, sustainability, and innovation. With over 20 years of experience in the coffee industry, our team brings a wealth of expertise and a deep love for the bean.

Farm to Cup
step
01
Picking the Red Cherries
Ripe, red cherries are carefully handpicked to ensure sweetness and flavor. Unripe or overripe ones are avoided, making this the first and most crucial step in quality coffee production.
step
02
Drying the Coffee Beans
After harvesting, cherries are sun-dried on raised beds or mats. Farmers turn them regularly to prevent mold. Drying takes 7–21 days until beans reach 10–12% moisture content.
step
03
Roasting the Coffee
After hulling, beans are roasted using heat and airflow to develop flavor and aroma. Roast levels vary by taste, transforming green beans into rich, brown coffee ready for brewing.
step
04
Packing the Coffee
After roasting, beans are cooled, then packed whole or ground in airtight, food-safe bags. Each pack includes origin and roast details, with SeedStar’s packaging reflecting quality and traceability.
